Feeling Snacky? You May Want to Add Some Banana Chips

Banana chips have become a common “pasalubong” by most Filipinos whenever they travel across the country. It is because the Philippines has an abundance of banana trees growing almost everywhere. Plantations are easy to find especially in rural provinces. The country has been exporting the good internationally for quite some time. It is no doubt a readily-available snack we all grew up munching on. So if you find at your home a pack of banana chips, you may try to relish your snack with banana chips add-ons to perk up your snack. Here are some suggestions to consider.

Coat them with dark chocolate.

The usual sweet banana chips are indeed chewy but if you’re a next-level sweet tooth, why not try to dip the chips into a liquid mixture of dark chocolate and freeze them? Wait for a few hours and your brand new chocolate-y dessert is ready! If you wish to add more flavors, you may first dip the chips into peanut butter and freeze. Then proceed with the final dark chocolate coating and enjoy. This may add a new layer of flavor to compliment your love for everything that is sweet.

Top them on cereals.

If you’re a busy person and always rushing every morning to have breakfast, then chances are you’re a cereal fan already. Since the meal is very easy to prepare and requires no cooking, it is really effective for tight-scheduled lifestyles. Consider adding some banana chips on your favorite cereal breakfast. Not only will it add a new taste to your meal, it also has lots of nutritional benefits to your body. It is said that bananas are really good for breakfast due to its high fiber content that helps in digestion and metabolism of the body. 

A replacement for the nutty texture on peanut butter.

Some peanut spreads have tiny bits of nuts inside them but some don’t. So if you want to achieve the nutty texture of a peanut butter spread, crush some banana chips into tiny bits and then mix them with peanut butter. It may also add a uniquely complimenting flavor to the traditional spread.  

Could be croutons on salads.

This may sound unusual but if you don’t have croutons available to add to your salad, you may replace them with banana chips. However, if you find the idea being too sweet for a salad, you may first sprinkle some salt on the chips before adding them to your salad. This may help neutralize the taste of the chips to be perfect for the salad.   

A chewy ingredient for baked goodies.

To some who like baked goodies, putting some crushed nuts in a bread to make it chewier is a usual option. However, if you don’t prefer nuts for some reason, why not try crushed banana chips instead? You may consider to add it when baking brownies, cookies, revel bars, cupcakes or even a banana bread. 

An ice cream topper.

This could be the most common snack-hack for banana chips. We always put almost anything on ice cream as a topper, as long as it’s sweet and the flavors will compliment. But if you don’t have fresh bananas at home and wish to have banana split for dessert, then why not try to use the crunchy version as an ingredient? It may be a little different but the taste will still be the same since it is still banana that you added.
